Welcome!
The Albany County Department of Social Services is responsible for addressing the social service needs of the poor and the near poor, as well as those who are unable to care for and protect themselves, while at the same time upholding the laws that govern the Department.
It is our mission to improve the quality of life in Albany County by helping people to help themselves, to help those incapable of acting on their own behalf and to ensure everyone has an acceptable standard of living. We do this by offering a broad range of protective, preventative, social and financial services. It is our hope that by offering these citizens employment and training services, child support and effective case management, they will be able to leave the welfare rolls and go on to better, more productive lives.
Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Many homeowners and renters have difficulty paying fuel costs during the winter months. This may be particularly true as a result of the uncertain economy. Increased costs of living, combined with cold temperatures may cause lower income households and the elderly to be at risk. Home Energy Assistance and Weatherization are critical programs available to assist eligible individuals so that they may live comfortably and safely during the winter months. Learn more »
