Volunteer Opportunities to Help Seniors and the Community

Many of the programs offered by the senior centers and service agencies and supported by Albany County Department for Aging, are made possible by volunteers who generously donate their time to help seniors. If you would like to volunteer, contact one of the programs listed below or contact an Albany County senior center. To find a center near you click here.

Telephone Reassurance Services
Volunteers make regular telephone ‘visits’ with the homebound elderly (60+) to help decrease the feeling of isolation. Volunteers are trained.

Friendly Visitor and Shopping Assistance Program
Trains and matches volunteers with Albany County seniors to provide weekly socialization and shopping assistance to those who are generally homebound, isolated, and lack adequate support systems to obtain those services.

Friendly Visitor, Telephone Assurance, Shopping Assistance, Transportation to Appointments, Meal Preparation, Assistance with paperwork, Yardwork, and more.
Community Caregivers service area includes: Altamont, Guilderland, Bethlehem, Voorheesville, Berne, Knox, and New Scotland.

Intergenerational Program - Seniors Teaching and Reaching out to Students (STARS)
Seniors assist young elementary and kindergarten students with reading, academics and confidence building skills in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school district, including A.W. Becker Elementary in Selkirk and P.B. Coeymans Elementary in Ravena.
