JCAB Training: A Restorative Approach to Address Juvenile Crime [Feb 12, 2010]
The Juvenile Community Accountability Board seeks to help juveniles understand the impact crime has had on the community, and to allow them an opportunity to repair the harm that was caused. Board members are all volunteers who live, work or have some vested interest in the community. A training seminar for interested community members is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Beware of Deed Copy Scam! [Oct 26, 2007]

Albany County Clerk Tom Clingan advises property owners to beware of a deed copy scam. The County Clerk's office has received calls from concerned property owners about communications that they've received from "New York Retrieval, Inc" offering to secure a certified copy of the deed to their property for a fee of nearly $60.00. This is about 10 times what it would cost to obtain a certified copy directly from the Clerk's office, and non-certified images can be viewed for free online.

County Offers Free Prescription Discount Card [Feb 8, 2010]

County Executive Mike Breslin, Deputy Majority Leader of the County Legislature Shawn Morse and members of the County Legislature announced on Monday, February 8th the Albany County Prescription Discount Card, which will be provided free of charge to all county residents through a partnership with ProAct, Inc., a Pharmacy Benefit Management Company.

 

 
County Completes Purchase of Rail Trail [Jan 13, 2010]

The County purchased the nine-mile stretch of the old Delaware & Hudson Railway between the Port of Albany and Voorheesville for $700,000 from Canadian Pacific Railway with a 2003 grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) of $350,000. Scenic Hudson, a Poughkeepsie-based non-profit land conservation organization, donated the matching funds of $350,000 to complete the purchase.

Maxwell Road Relocation Project Begins [Sep 23, 2009]

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin was joined September 23 by Town of Colonie Supervisor Paula Mahan and Director of Regional Affairs for Governor David Paterson James Hanson to break ground for the County's first federal stimulus project. The project will improve the safety of the intersection at Maxwell Road and Albany Shaker Road (County Route 157).

 

 
Albany County Business Development Corporation Lowers Interest Rate on Business Loans [Aug 18, 2009]

The Albany County Business Development Corporation (ACBDC) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration to lower the interest rate for loans funded through the Al Tech Trust Fund to prime minus 4 percent, with a floor of 4 percent. The previous interest rate was prime minus 3 percent, with a floor of 5 percent.

 

 
Albany and Schenectady Counties Receive Grant to Support Aging in Community [Aug 5, 2009]

Albany and Schenectady Counties were awarded a $25,359 Community Empowerment grant from the New York State Office for the Aging to assist in their efforts to promote and plan more aging and disabled friendly communities, which support older adults and disabled individuals to remain in their community for as long as they wish.

Contract Signed for Purchase of Albany County Rail Trail [Dec 23, 2008]

The proposed rail trail project will convert a nine-mile stretch of the old Delaware & Hudson Railroad between the Port of Albany and Voorheesville to a public recreational trail. Once completed, the Rail Trail would link municipalities along a safe and accessible pedestrian and bicycle route. The trail would allow the County to preserve open space in the community, link neighborhoods and promote physical fitness.

 
County to Phase Out Trans Fat from Restaurants [Aug 8, 2008]

The County Department of Health has announced an initiative to make eating out healthier in Albany County. The use of artificial trans fats in local restaurants and other food service establishments in Albany County will be eliminated in 2009.

Four of our departments have a "direct treatment relationship" with patients and are offering printer-friendly, online versions of their Notice of Privacy Practices. These notices describe how health information about you may be used or disclosed, and how you can gain access to your information.
